Famous for her youthful looks, I can think of no better celebrity to come up with an award-winning anti-ageing skincare regime than Sixties singer, Lulu. After noticing the first signs of ageing at 40, by which point skin is no longer as hydrated and plump (I can definitely vouch for this!), Lulu worked with an award-winning Chemist to come up with solutions that achieved real results, relentlessly going back to the drawing board until they created products that made a genuine difference.
Lulu is now 63. I’m guessing she has had some extra help to look this good, but still - I’ll be very happy to look that smooth and fresh at 63!
Time Bomb
Lulu describes her range as “strategic weapons designed first and foremost to eliminate skin’s most lethal enemies. . . sagging, thinning, dryness, wrinkling and dulling of the skin.”
I can’t go any further without mentioning the packaging. I think it’s super stylish and incredibly cute. It’s lightweight, easy to pack if travelling and looks gorgeous on my bathroom shelf!
Smart Balm - Eye Cream
This lightweight product has a gel-cream consistency, sinks in quickly and feels soothing and cooling on the skin. Lulu recommends reapplying it throughout the day to refresh the eye area, as you would with a lip balm.
Active ingredients include GLA, an omega-6 essential fatty acid and yeast extracts to plump lines and prevent crepey-ness. Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone (I don’t know either!) & peptides reduce puffiness and add firmness.
I have no idea if the numbers on the packaging refer to the age the products ought to be used at, but this one ranges from 20-44.
In all honesty I’m not sure whether anything other than surgery can make a significant lasting difference to the eye area and realistically,in terms of anti-ageing, I don’t expect anything other than minor improvements from an eye cream. What I want it to achieve is all of the above and I do think this one helps reduce puffiness and keeps the area moisturised. There may be a slight improvement to smoothness, but beyond that it’s all about the prevention in my book.
Trouble Shooter - Neck Jaw & Chest Cream
The neck and chest are often overlooked when it comes to anti-ageing, despite being areas to show the first signs (along with eyes & hands). I dearly wish I’d looked after mine better when I was younger and not subjected them - often unprotected - to scorching sun (makes me wince just thinking about it). If I’m not using a specific product like this one, I now ensure that I cleanse and moisturise the neck and chest every day.
I was delighted to give this product a go and while it hasn’t reversed time, it has definitely reduced the signs of it on my décolletage. Intensely hydrating, Trouble Shooter contains a firming agent to help sagging skin appear tighter, along with plant-derived extracts and Vitamin C to improve the appearance of brown spots. (I’m tempted to slather all over to be honest).
Blast to the Past - Dermabrasion
I was a little wary about trying the third product I was sent as I’m nervous about certain skincare treatments that I think are best left in the hands of professionals, but after reading up on it further and testing it on my hands, I decided to give it a go.
It’s designed to gently but effectively remove dry, dull skin to reveal a fresher, smoother and more youthful surface underneath. It looks and feels like exfoliator and works in a similar way; the difference is that this contains professional grade magnesium oxide crystals, with a moisturising cream base to help soothe the skin rather than stripping it.
Despite my initial hesitation I was pleased with the results of this and it did make my face feel super soft, even though only used it once a week rather than 2-3 times as suggested.
I would definitely use these products again and would love to try others from the range. Names like Youth Juice Secret Oil and Youth Explosion Day Serum are proving difficult to resist!
You can read about / purchase the full range at lulusplace. It’s also available on QVC (worth keeping an eye out for special offers) and Amazon.
