I adore red lipstick and firmly believe there is a perfect shade and texture to suit everyone out there. Oh and whoever said redheads can’t wear red lipstick…pffft! Here are some favourites that I’ve been loving in recent months… my preference will always be for lipstick, but for those who find the colour a little daunting, I have some more user friendly glossy options!
Red Lipstick Swatches
Straight in with the swatches, Guerlain Rouge G in Gracey is a deep, warm corally toned red with a moisturising texture and great lasting power.
Laura Mercier Plumberry is, as the name suggests, a perfect balance between plum and berry - my absolute favourite of the season. Sometimes it looks completely plum, sometimes more red, but always gorgeous - and the velvety texture is very comfortable to wear. The slight blue tone makes it a great teeth whitener (every little helps!).
Kate Moss for Rimmel in #01 (from the first collection) is what I’d call a true red; neither warm nor cool, I think most skin tones could carry this off.
Here they are applied (click to enlarge if you wish)…

Please excuse my darker neck in 2 of these shots… I was testing a fake tan at the time!
Get Glossy
For those not quite ready to face a full on red lip, I love all three of these glosses…
Revolution Organics is a deep, dark, sultry red with a gorgeous texture, more-expensive-than-it-is texture.
Daniel Sandler’s Strawberry is probably the most wearable of the three, a gentle raspberry toned red that comes in adorable packaging with a lip pencil at one end - genius and great for on the go!
Mavala’s new Sugar Free lipgloss in Strawberry is beautifully pigmented, enriched with grape seed & vitamins and smells of vanilla. I love them almost as much as the nail polishes! Note the depth of colour in this one compared to the other two… it’s almost as pigmented as the lipstick, but with a much lighter texture.
All the Reds: Lipgloss vs Lipstick
Are you a red lip fan…. and which of these would you opt for?
If you’ve always wanted to sport red lips and not quite had the nerve, let me know if you’d like me to do a post on how to feel the fear & do it anyway! Once you’ve tried it, there’s no going back…
