I love perfume all year around, but brighter days, more time spent outdoors and a little more skin exposure, all seem to heighten my longing for new scents that wave goodbye to winter. Here are six very different new fragrances that all spell summer in their own way…
Sweet & Fruity… I make no secret of my love for Roger & Gallet on these pages and their latest launch is no exception. I first spotted Fleur De Figuier in France at Easter and have really been enjoying this juicy, fruity, unabashedly fig fragrance. Sweet, sparkly and quite different from any others I’ve tried, it’s perfect for Summer - and the bottle is my favourite to date. Matching body products include the creamiest, most delicious shower gel I’ve tried.
Aquatic Floral… I loved the original Calvin Klein Eternity, one of the first ‘grown up’ perfumes I tried and swooned when I saw the rainbow-effect glass bottle of Eternity Summer 2013. With top notes of Sea Breeze accord, centre of wisteria and base of white amber, this is more aquatic and fresh than I’d normally opt for… I tend to enjoy it most an hour or two after application. Although very much a summer scent, it’s quite heady and has great lasting power… people notice (& approve) when I wear it, which I love!
Zesty Fresh… DKNY Art is part of a new collection inspired by the art of renowned New York urban street artist, Keith Haring. I love the packaging and the box is fabulous too. The notes read like a cocktail and smell just as good! Up top are ginger, grapefruit and pear, followed by a floral heart with Muguet, Cyclamen, Orange Flower & Raspberry and a base of woods and musks. Although not a typical choice for me, I’ve really fallen for this as the perfect daytime scent - it gets lots of compliments and is a real mood lifter too!
Sensually Sweet… Be still my beating heart… Laura Mercier has released a new Summer perfume in Ambre Vanille, to complement her existing body range. Move over Fresh Fig (featured in one of my earliest reviews here), Ambre Vanille is my new favourite gourmande. This is so sexy it almost made me blush when I first applied it. Yes, it’s that good. The soft amber cuts the sweetness of vanilla, leaving an elegantly sensual scent that includes notes of Tangerine, Coconut and musky Sandalwood. Definitely lust; possibly love.
Sophisticated Fruity Floral… Oh La La is a new orange-based citrus floral by British Perfumer, Cath Collins. Simultaneously fresh, soft and sophisticated, it brings back memories of Sicily. Notes include lemon at the top, orange flower at the centre; bergamot and grapefruit with heady lily, jasmine and ylang ylang, in a soft heart of velvety musk. I’m intrigued by the atomiser which sprays the finest mists of perfume I’ve ever seen… I love this! A grown up fruity floral that’s both bright and sensual.
Youthful Floral Fruit… Anna Sui Secret Wish isn’t a new launch in itself, but its presentation for 2013 is so amazing I had to include it…you can check out the cute collectable fragrance tins at BritishBeautyBlogger. The scent itself is sweet, juicy and fruity, with melon, peach and pineapple standing out the most to me. Top notes also include lemon and black currant, followed by florals and woods with a musky dry down. Quite a young scent, I can’t imagine anyone not liking this.
